Grid is referring to an Instagram grid, which contains all content posted by an account. The grid is found on the main feed of an account.

A group is an online community within a social network. Groups can be public or private.

Within a group, community members with a common interest can share information and discuss relevant topics. Both Facebook and LinkedIn offer groups on their platforms.

Google Business Profile (previously known as Google My Business) is a business listing service provided by Google.

Google Business Profile allows businesses that have a physical location or regular contact with customers to own a listing on Google that’s displayed when a user searches for their business name.

The listing contains information a searcher will find useful including opening hours, address, contact information, and a website link.

Goblin mode is slang for an unapologetic embrace of lazy, sloppy, or hedonistic behavior.

The phrase’s popularity exploded in 2022, with Oxford University Press even naming it their word of the year:

A geotag is a specific location added to a photo, video, or other social media post. Geotags can expose your posts to more people, since content is often searchable by location.

Gen X is short for Generation X, who are the people born between 1965 and 1980. Generation X comes between Baby Boomers (people born between 1946 and 1964) and millennials (people born between 1981 and 1996).

Like millennials, Gen Xers grew up during a time of rapid technological advances and are known for their independence, skepticism, and resourcefulness. Gen X’s favorite social platforms include YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.

FYP

FYP is an acronym that means “For You Page.” It refers to the tab on TikTok that is filled with recommended content and videos the app thinks you’ll enjoy the most.

Some creators use the #fyp hashtag to try and get their video on other users’ For You Page to help increase views and brand visibility.

Friction refers to a point in the customer journey where the customer or potential customer gets stuck before completing a purchase. Examples of friction can include a difficult newsletter sign-up process or a clumsy in-product experience.

Marketers and product teams work to uncover and rectify moments of friction throughout the customer journey to ensure a smooth experience for the user.

Follow Friday is a hashtag used to highlight some of your favorite Twitter accounts.

Including someone in a #FF post is a way of recommending their account to your followers.

Finsta is a slang term for “fake Insta”, which means a fake Instagram account. People use Finstas to post content that is deemed inappropriate or too private for their main Instagram account.

A feed is an updated list of all the new content posted by the accounts a user follows on social media. Rather than being purely chronological, most social media feeds are controlled by an algorithm.

Favorite was the term Twitter originally used to indicate Likes. Favorites were indicated with a star icon. However, Twitter now uses a heart icon and and uses the term likes, in line with other social networks.

A Facebook Shop is an online store that lives on Facebook and Instagram and allows users to browse, shop, and make purchases either directly on Facebook or by clicking through to a company’s website to complete the sale.
